The premise is easy: I open up iTunes and hit "random". I write down the next 5 songs that play and hope that the results are
1) Interesting, and
2) Not Embarrassing
Here we go.
-------------
1.
Artist: Portishead
Song: All Mine
Album: Portishead
Right out of the gate with that swinging, brassy intro.
Only gets better from there, too.
2.
Artist: Kanye West
Song: Through The Wire
Album: The College Dropout
Chaka Khan sample = David Foster writing credit = diamond nipple piercing for Brody Jenner
3.
Artist: guillemots
Song: Through the Windowpane
Album: Through the Windowpane
Great pop song on a great pop album.
Criminally under-appreciated.
Saw them live in Amsterdam.
The show was far better than my efforts to flirt with the bassist.
4.
Artist: Fiona Apple
Song: The Way Things Are
Album: When the Pawn...
No voice sadder. She unleashes at 3:08
The ellipsis after When the Pawn is a placeholder for over 400 characters of text.
It held the Guinness Record for Longest Album Title until 2007.
5.
Artist: Silverchair
Song: If You Keep Losing Sleep
Album: Young Modern
Kaleidoscope. Could you get any further from Frogstomp?
Album cover is an homage to Mondrian, one of my favourites.
Bottom Line: a fairly enjoyable 5-song run. Not stellar, wouldn't put it in a time capsule but it mixes some inventive, personally affecting stuff with a song by Kanye West.

UPDATED
So, I think Fun w/ iTunes would be more fun if you can hear the tracks I'm talking about. So, with a little internet digging I have found a way to upload this 5 song mix. Fingers crossed that it works AND that you dig.
